The English-Speaking Union's Speech and Debate department coordinates its work in persuasive spoken English. The ESU is the world leader in providing English language training and support for debate and extended speech in an educational context. The team administers the John Smith Memorial Mace (for universities), the Schools Mace, the Public Speaking Competition for Schools, and its International counterpart and the National Mooting Competition.
