Why a Fear of Public Speaking Retreat?
Because we listen to what you have to say."Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are our own fears." Rudyard Kipling
The College of Public Speaking has been successfully delivering fear of public speaking courses for some considerable time. Feedback is always positive. Students leave the course stronger, more confident and more able to deliver.
However, feedback suggests a longer course with a 50/50 split of theoretical aspects, relaxation, meditation and visualisation, balanced with practical real-life exercises to practise speech making.
People attend this course to address a specific personal issue and they leave with a feeling of achievement and future optimism. The fear has dissipated and they have also helped others overcome their fear. At the course end, students are often seen exchanging telephone numbers and email addresses with those whom they have befriended and supported. This aspect of a 'shared growing experience' is the cornerstone for future personal development and by staying in touch provides an ongoing informal support mechanism.
Becoming a confident and effective speaker is a life-changing experience and this is a weekend that will change your life. This is not a course to be missed...

'Hello Vince, I just wanted to say thank you so much for the course, and for your kind feedback. To hear you say that I was good at speaking, was as much a shock to me as if I'd suddenly realised I was good speaking mandarin! I can honestly say that this was the first time in my life that I have stood up in front of a group of adults, by myself, and addressed them. I have contributed to joint presentations in the past, but this is the first time that I've faced anything like this alone. As it was such unknown territory for me, I realise now that I had a totally negative 'visualisation' of how things would go if I ever attempted to address a group of adults. My fear had been so great that I'd never even attempted it. I know that I have still got work to do but I can feel a real shift in my attitude. I feel now that I could face an interview panel; film lessons for my advanced skills teaching qualification; deliver a (short) staff training session. All of these things are things that I would avoided like the plague in the past. What I realised yesterday, but had never even considered at all in the past, is that with 15 years teaching experience, I do actually have some skills that I can transfer from the classroom to the staff meeting. I just needed to find a way of overcoming my anxiety and accessing them. Thanks so much for helping me take what feels like quite a big step in overcoming this long standing fear. Kind regards, Katy'
'Hi Vince, I'm sorry it has taken me this long to write back to you after the course, life has been rather hectic of late... anyhow, I wanted to thank you very much indeed for providing such an excellent course - I very much enjoyed it and felt the course content and the way you presented it to be extremely beneficial and very enjoyable. I was fairly skeptical before coming I have to admit ... but I am so glad that I attended and would very much like to come on another one in the future. With many thanks and best wishes, Sara'
'This course has had an amazing impact on me. I expected it to be sombre in terms of working with negative emotions. But it was fun, even joyous and incredibly effective.'
Maurice Leon - Paris - Pharmaceuticals'It was the incredible trainer. No, it was the outstanding venue. No, it was the phenominal group dynamic. Perhaps it was all three that has given me this renewed faith in myself. '
Francesco Alonso - Valladolid (Spain) - International Banking'I came on the course because I was dreading a major conference speech in Amsterdam. I delivered that in mid-December and my Director was very proud of what I achieved having attended this course as initially my confidence had been so low. I really appreciated the support and insights of the trainer as well as the other members of the group who were all rooting for me to do well.'
Clara Debel - Ashford'It was a lot of fun and Vince put us all at ease early on. I feel I now have specific tips on things to work on like pause, pitch and pace which is what I wanted. Also lots of praise has built my confidence. I have to speak to groups regularly so I can use all these techniques to practice.'
Ana Treixeira - Lisbon'It helped my confidence with speaking to a larger group. It was a very supportive environment. Vince has great expertise and is a brillliant communicator.'
Sarah Michaels - Islington'The whole experience was objective, constructive and supportive. I have never felt so good about my ability to communicate.'
Dr Antonio Delgado de Luque' Superb throughout and most enjoyable. I now feel more credible as a presenter and I'm looking forward to next week's presentation. I will sleep a lot better after this marvellous experience.'
Joanne Obogu - NHS'I'm really glad I came. I'm already feeling more confident about speaking in public.'
Jane Harne - Woking'The course ran like clockwork. We covered so much ground but there was never a rush. I would recommend this course to anybody with a fear of public speaking.'
Jenny Summers - Leigh-on-Sea'The techniques to reduce nerves took immediate effect. It was interesting to see myself on video. Although I felt nervous I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't come across to the audience. I will be much better prepared for my presentation and interview next week.'
Katie Martins - Riverhead'The instructor was superb and we also learned a great deal from each other. This course is excellent value.'
Andrew Dobson - Orpington'I wish I had done a course like this many years ago. I have been holding myself back for no good reason. '
Gerard Bayer - Paris'Enjoyable, useful and very helpful. The tips, advice and anecdotes were invaluable. Thanks Vince'
Jose Martinez - Barcelona'Today's course was very beneficial. It was good to be together with so many other people who face the same challenges. I no longer feel alone. The advice was both practical and useful. It helped me see things from a different perspective and I now feel more relaxed about the whole idea of speaking in public.'
Richard Sheppard - Maidenhead'I found the practical sessions very useful. There's nothing better than practice. Watching the video gave me great confidence that I can do this to a good standard. The whole day was well structured and fantastic. Thanks Vince'
Jenny Long - Horsham'The atmosphere was warm, encouraging and informative. The advice was clear and easy to grasp. This is a great course with a lot of useful information that I can put into practice.'
Paul Anson - West Drayton'Doing the speech practices really helped me feel confident and at ease. Very useful to watch myself on TV. I was pleased that my nerves didn't show.'
