Media Skills
Media Skills
The College of Public Speaking has made a reputation for
itself working across multiple sectors in the fields of
presentation skills training, executive speech coaching and
train the trainer workshops.
We all know that speaking in front of a group of friends
and family can be quite daunting for the average
individual, more so for the team leader, manager or company
director addressing a seminar, conference or
shareholders’ meeting.
Live audiences
But this is nothing compared the sensation of speaking live
on a television interview with perhaps four to five million
viewers. Few people have experience of handling the lights
and heat of the studio as well as the intensity of the
questioning.
We have worked with several experienced speakers who are
confident and consistent performers, that is until somebody
pushes a television camera in their face. They can freeze,
become petrified almost, and so losing control of their key
messages and reason for being interviewed. They feel like
they have become the eye of the storm and with a large
audience watching them wilt, their effectiveness as company
spokesman dwindles.
Pressure workout
At the College of Public Speaking we have produced the
ultimate pressure workout for handling nerves, staying on
theme and scoring points by coherently delivering your key
messages with impact.
With a growing library of botched TV interview archives we
calmly analyse what we want to achieve by setting clear
success criteria and identify the bear traps that will
swallow up and waste this fantastic opportunity.
Video feedback
Then we practice hard, multiple times in pressure
situations utilising video feedback until we achieve our
goals. Few people would choose to be quizzed by skilled
interviewers in front of a massive audience, but for those
that do, the College of Public Speaking is there to help.
