Police and Emergency Services Training in Presentation Skills

Police and emergency services

For the College of Public Speaking working with the Metropolitan Police is a fascinating experience. For those of us who do not work on the thin blue line, we should all be grateful to those that do. No two days are alike and the strains and demands on the police service depend heavily on their relationship with the local community where first class communication is paramount to success.

The requirement for excellent communication skills possibly never has a higher resonance than when a police officer is asked to say a few words in public.

Despite the words, what the audience must hear and perhaps feel is warmth, trust, reliabilty, integrity and fairness.

Not an easy task to accomplish. So how can the College of Public Speaking help?

Communication is a minefield and you wouldn't send a platoon of inexperienced sappers out into the field without some specific safety training.

It's the same with communication skills training. Our first objective is to concentrate on the desired outcome. Who are you addressing? Senior officers, a CID meeting, parents at a local policing initiative? All have specific requirements.

By defining the required outcome we can devise effective speaking strategies that work towards that goal.

Operational communication skills are key when dealing with other emergency services. Poor communication in extreme cases could cost lives. So please give us a call - we can help.

Here are some comments made by a number of police officers who have benefited from our training programme:

'My team and I were really impressed with how quickly we could develop our existing speaking skills into a far more polished performance.  I could really see the difference in my staff at the end of the training session and we all now have a greater understanding of what makes an effective speaker.  With so much interaction and time to practice, we really felt the benefits.  I would thoroughly recommend this course from the College of Public Speaking – it should be a basic skill for all employees.'
Jason Ashwood - Detective Chief Inspector - Metropolitan Police

'An exceptionally useful day's training, delivered in a positive and personable manner, very enjoyable and significant food for thought. Thank you.'
Diane Wilson -- DCI Notts Police

'Very well delivered and to see the benefits in 3 hours in myself and others is inspiring and amazing.'
Annie Wallis -- DC Notts Police

'Despite doing numerous presentations at work over the years I've actually never done any formal public speaking training before. I was amazed at how quickly I could identify the areas which needed improvement and see the changes on video after one session. I have remembered the key points from our class and I use them almost daily now. I've found it a real help. I'd thoroughly recommend this training method'
Tony Kezos — Detective Inspector — Metropolitan Police
