Corporate Challenge Results 2011
The College of Public Speaking Corporate Challenge 2011 was a major success on October 24th at the English-Speaking Union's Headquarters in Mayfair. Ten finalists spoke to a one hundred strong audience on the theme of 'You make a living from what you get, you make a life from what you give.' A quotation attributed to Winston Churchill. Five independent judges, led by Chris Bates were staggered by the quality and diversity of the interpretations of the theme. Following a long deliberation the results were announced in reverse order: Third - Jason Ashwood of the Metropolitan Police, Runner-up - David Jones from the Natural History Museum. The 2011 Corporate Challenge Champion is Andrew Chuks who runs Winner's Edge, his own training company, pictured with Chris Bates.

The College of Public Speaking celebrates one year of successful Public Speaking Retreats at Witherdens Hall in Wingham, near Canterbury.
The College of Public Speaking celebrates a full year of successful Public Speaking Retreats at Witherdens Hall in Wingham, near Canterbury. Since the introduction of this unique UK event in September 2010, a student contingent from across Kent, the UK and the world has visited and benefited from this popular two day course.
Education Director, Vince Stevenson commented that, "The Public Speaking Retreat was inspired by a discussion with young Indian doctor who attended one of my regular courses in London. We both shared a keen interest in the subjects of meditation and visualisation. From that moment onwards, the retreat was a certainty. The next job was to find a fantastic venue, out of London but easily accessible by car or train. I found Witherdens Hall within 48 hours, visited the following week, fell in love with it and now it is one of the most popular events in the speaking calendar. Indeed we have added extra dates to cover demand for both regular and corporate customers.”
