Train the Trainer

Train the Trainer
To be an effective trainer requires a special balance of skills. On the one hand the trainer needs to have enough charisma and dynamism to make their subject interesting and compelling. On the other hand, focussing on the students’ ability to learn and apply the subject matter is more important than the trainer’s ‘performance’. For this reason whenever we ‘train a trainer’ we are looking at three areas:
  • Content - the content and structure of the training;
  • Communication - the ability to communicate that content, and
  • Flexibility - the ability to adapt the style of delivery to suit different groups, personalities and environments.

  • Clearly each of the three elements cannot exist in isolation and each needs to be understood in relation to each other. Depending on the training needs and aims of the organisation, each course requires a different blend of these components. It will always focus on the principles of good communication and involves a large amount of interaction from the students, who will be required to prepare aspects of a presentation and will develop their ability to evaluate themselves and others.

The components of the training include:

    Content
How to establish the aims and objectives of the training.
How to structure training for maximum interest and effect.
Logistics; room lay-out; use of technology; props and equipment.
How to involve everybody all of the time.
    Planning and preparation.

    Communication
    Speaking and delivery skills
    Attitude and enthusiasm
    Developing a pleasing personality
    Confidence and posture
    Empathising with the student
Recognising and adapting to different types of personality
Principles of good two way communication
    Listening skills
Interpreting different types of feedback; body-language, unspoken messages
Responding rather than reacting to situations and people
Facilitating the skills transfer by delivering objective and supportive feedback on classroom activities

Excellent delivery usually wins out over excellent content and naturally, we expect both. Therefore Training the Trainer is firstly about developing the person and then about the person delivering the training.

The train the trainer course runs on the basis of client request and requires a minimum of two students. Please contact us for details and fees on 020-8879-1002.
