Meet your master trainer and founder, Vince Stevenson. Vince is an avid learner and, in recent years, has earned many certificates in learning and communication science from the University of California, San Diego, and instructional design from the Institute of Adult Learning, Singapore. Vince is working on a Higher Education Certificate from Harvard as part of his lifelong learning motivation.

Day 1 - An Introduction to Our 5 Day Discovery Public Speaking Course

The College of Public Speaking promotes inclusivity, diversity, and equality.

Excellent communication is built on solid foundations - and on Day 1, we deconstruct public speaking and rebuild it from scratch. This fun exercise alone creates a clear sense of purpose and direction.

Throughout this public speaking course, you'll make many prepared and impromptu speeches videoed by your trainer, who will offer objective, constructive, and confidence-building feedback. Day 3 - Debating Skills

Would you be confident you can secure the outcome you want in a debate with a problem colleague or client?

You will be better equipped after Day 3.

You'll discover:

1. introduction to debating essentials
2. how great speakers and people of influence like using the art and power of rhetoric
3. how to use words, logic, structure, and delivery to take any listener on a journey of persuasion
4. the preplanned debating techniques politicians use to deflect the attacks of their opponents and negotiate better deals
5. we will also stage debates where we'll explore and unpack the effectiveness of each contribution

Day 4 - Irresistible Influence and Transformational Speaking for Leadership

You, too, can be charismatic. You do not need a million-dollar smile and a Harvard education. Research studies show that anybody can be charismatic.

Charisma can be learned by applying various techniques at the appropriate time. Those techniques will, in time, become behaviours and part and parcel of your authentic self.

All you need to know is how to embody them - and that's what you'll discover on Day 4.

Creative storytelling is all the rage. The best speakers use stories to convey powerful messages. Our impromptu speeches now include a story, an example, a metaphor or an anecdote. Applying the correct tool to the correct context is the key to success. We can now adapt to values-based speeches like introducing the company's ethos to a community fundraising event or delivering a leaver's speech for a long-respected colleague. You can adapt and find the appropriate words across multiple contexts. Once you honed the ground rules, it's a case of practice. 

Day 5 - Graduation Day

Day 5 is dedicated to planning, preparation, practice, and delivery of your very own pre-prepared speech.

You'll pull together everything you've learned during the week.

Throughout the day, we'll be working on delivering speech projects where greater time for planning is allocated.

1. how to create and deliver a (short) TED talk
2. how to manage and win over large audiences
3. how to handle a hostile audience - how to connect with the audience and invite them to be more receptive to your proposition.
4. how to use advanced presentation techniques and tools - text notes, PowerPoint, Mindmaps, bullet points, index cards, memory techniques...
5. how to handle Q&A sessions with ease
6. we video your speeches and review your progress
